Australia Approves Cultivation of BASF GM Indian Mustard
OCTOBER 19, 2022
The Australian Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OTGR) has issued BASF Australia with a license for the commercial cultivation of the herbicide-tolerant Indian mustard (Brassica juncea) line RF3. The herbicide tolerance was achieved by the introduction of the bar glufosinate-tolerance gene from Streptomyces hygroscopicus. The plants were produced by crossing conventional Indian mustard with GM canola (Brassica napus) plants. Commercial production is proposed in all growing areas of Australia, with its products to enter general commerce, including use in human food and animal feed.
