BASF Seeks Australia Approval for HT Indian Mustard

FEBRUARY 28, 2022

Australia’s Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OTGR) has received a licence application from BASF Australia for commercial cultivation of the herbicide tolerant Indian mustard (Brassica juncea) line RF3. The herbicide tolerance was achieved by the introduction of the bar glufosinate herbicide tolerance gene from Streptomyces hygroscopicus. The plants were produced by crossing conventional Indian mustard with GM canola (Brassica napus) plants. Commercial production is proposed in all growing areas of Australia, with its products to enter general commerce, including use in human food and animal food.
