BASF Seeks Australia Approval for MS11 Canola
OCTOBER 13, 2020
Australia’s Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) has received a license application from BASF Australia for commercial cultivation of the genetically modified canola line MS11, intended for use as a parental line for breeding and seed multiplication. MS11 canola varieties contain three introduced genes derived from common bacteria: the barnase and barstar genes, from Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, which confer male sterility and fertility restoration and form a hybrid breeding system; and the bar gene, derived from Streptomyces hygroscopicus, which confers tolerance to the herbicide glufosinate.
