Bayer and Berkeley Lights Enter Novel Trait Discovery Collaboration
Bayer has entered into a multi-year collaboration with Berkeley Lights, a digital cell biology company focused on the commercialisation of biotherapeutics and cell-based products, to develop and perform high-throughput functional screening workflows aimed at accelerating and expanding the discovery of novel traits. Through this collaboration, Berkeley Lights will leverage its proprietary high-throughput opto-electropositioning (OEP) technology to screen variants of bioactives for Bayer. OEP technology uses light and millions of light-actuated pixels to move individual cells so they may be isolated, cultured, assayed and exported. Each cell is monitored and imaged in real-time in a proprietary NanoPen chamber or on Berkeley’s OptoSelect chips to provide phenotypic, functional and genotypic information for thousands of single cells in parallel.
