Bayer Seeks Deregulation of MON 87429 Maize
MAY 8, 2020
The USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has invited public comment on Bayer’s application for the deregulation of its GM herbicide tolerant maize event, MON 87429. Maize varieties containing event MON 87429 possess tolerance to the herbicides dicamba, glufosinate, 2,4-D and the aryloxyphenoxypropionate group of herbicides (‘FOPs’) through the expression of the demethylase gene, the phosphinothricin-N-acetyltransferase (pat) gene, and the ft_t gene, a modified version of the R-2,4-dichlorophenoxypropionate dioxygenase (Rdpa) gene. In addition, MON 87429 provides tissue-specific glyphosate tolerance to facilitate the production of hybrid maize seeds through the tissue-specific expression of the CP4 EPSPS protein.
