China Publishes Draft Rules on Herbicides for GM Crops

DECEMBER 3, 2021

China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs is seeking public comment on recently published draft rules outlining registration requirements for herbicides to be used on genetically modified (GM) herbicide tolerant crops. The draft rules include efficacy testing guidelines for herbicide tolerant maize and soybean varieties, and are open for comment until 31st December. China recently proposed a series of regulatory changes to the domestic seed industry which, if implemented, would simplify the GM approval process and could accelerate the commercialisation of GM maize in the country (see AgbioNews Nov 15, 2021).
