China to Approve More GM Maize Traits
China's Ministry of Agriculture has opened a period of public comment for a number of new GM crop genetic events, including three for maize. DBN3601T has been developed by Beijing Dabeinong Biotechnology Co., while ND207 and Zheda Ruifeng 8 were created by China National Tree Seed Corp & China Agricultural University and Hangzhou Ruifeng Biotech Co., respectively.
DBN3601T is a combination of two previously approved genetic events; DBN9936 (see AgbioNews Jan 24, 2020) and DBN9501 (AgbioNews Jan 11, 2021), possessing tolerance to the herbicide glyphosate through the production of the EPSPS protein, and insect resistance via the expression of Cry1Ab and vip3A genes. ND207 (formerly named 2A-7) is an insect resistance trait that produces the cry1ab and cry2ab proteins, while Zheda Ruifeng 8 (formerly named GAB-3) also possesses the cry1ab and cry2ab proteins for protection against select lepidopteran insect pests.
