Corteva and Tropical Melhoramento & Genética (TMG) have announced the launch of WideStrike 3 cotton in Brazil. Through the partnership between the two companies, TMG will offer two cotton varieties possessing WideStrike 3 technology in Brazil for the 2020/21 season: TMG 50WS3 and TMG 91WS3, both recommended for cultivation in the states of Mato Grosso, Bahia, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Maranhão, Piauí, Minas Gerais and São Paulo. WideStrike 3 cotton was authorised for cultivation and commercialisation in Brazil in 2018 (see AgbioNews Aug 24, 2018). WideStrike 3 contains three genes that express the Cry1Ac, Cry1F and Vip3A proteins and provides control of a broad spectrum of lepidopteran pests such as fall armyworm and cotton bollworm.
