Corteva Launches Conkesta E3 Soybeans in Brazil

AUGUST 24, 2021

Corteva has announced the launch of its Conkesta E3 soybeans in Brazil as part of the Enlist weed control system which was recently launched in the country. Conkesta E3 soybeans are a genetically modified (GM) herbicide-tolerant and insect-resistant soybean variety containing the genetic events DAS-4406-6 x DAS-81419-2. The DAS-4406-6 genetic event confers tolerance to the herbicides 2,4-D, glyphosate and glufosinate; whilst the DAS-81419-2 genetic event provides resistance to select lepidopteran pests through the expression of the Cry1F and Cry1Ac genes, in addition to conferring tolerance to glufosinate herbicides through the expression of the PAT gene. Corteva expects this technology to expand its position in the Latin American soybean market. Conkesta E3 soybeans recently received authorisation in the EU, enabling grain produced from the GM soybean grown in Brazil to be exported to the European market for food and feed use. Conkesta technology has previously been authorised in several other export markets, such as China (see AgbioNews Jan 6, 2020).
