EFSA Gives Positive Opinion of Bayer’s 3-Event Stacked Soybean

MAY 20, 2020

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has reported a positive scientific opinion of Bayer’s MON 87705 × MON 87708 × MON 89788 genetically modified (GM) soybean for food and feed uses, import and processing. The trait stack confers an altered fatty acid profile (increased oleic acid content) through the production of dsRNAs downregulating endogenous FAD2 and FATB enzymes; and confers tolerance to dicamba and to glyphosate containing herbicides through the expression of the DMO and the CP4 EPSPS genes.

In the latest review, the GMO panel did not identify any safety issues pertaining to the uses of MON 87705 × MON 87708 × MON 89788 soybean and concluded that the three-trait stack would not raise safety concerns in the case of accidental release of viable GM soybean seeds into the environment.
