EFSA Gives Positive Opinion of Corteva’s 4-Event Stacked Maize

JANUARY 15, 2021

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has reported a positive scientific opinion of Corteva’s TC1507 × MIR162 × MON 810 × NK603 GM maize, marketed as Optimim Leptra, for food and feed uses. The four‐event stack maize was produced by conventional crossing to combine four single maize events: TC1507 (expressing the Cry1F and PAT genes), MON 810 (expressing the Cry1Ab gene), MIR162 (expressing the Vip3Aa20 gene) and NK603 (expressing the CP4 epsps gene) to confer resistance to certain lepidopteran pests and tolerance to the herbicides glyphosate and glufosinate.

The latest review, undertaken by the GMO Panel, has concluded that the four-event stack maize is as safe as and nutritionally equivalent to the non-GM comparator and the non-GM reference varieties tested.
