EFSA Gives Positive Opinion of Corteva’s Conkesta Enlist E3 Soybean
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has reported a positive scientific opinion of Corteva’s genetically modified (GM) herbicide-tolerant and insect-resistant soybean DAS-4406-6 x DAS-81419-2, marketed as Conkesta Enlist E3. The DAS-4406-6 genetic event confers tolerance to the herbicides 2,4-D, glyphosate and glufosinate; whilst the DAS-81419-2 genetic event provides resistance to select lepidopteran insect pest through the expression of the Cry1F and Cry1Ac genes, in addition to conferring tolerance to glufosinate herbicides through the expression of the PAT gene.
In the latest review, the GMO panel concluded that Conkesta Enlist E3 soybeans were as safe as the conventional counterpart and the tested non-GM reference varieties with respect to potential effects on human and animal health and the environment.
