EFSA Publishes Risk Assessment of BASF's T304-40 Cotton Trait
JULY 23, 2025
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has published its assessment of BASF's genetically modified (GM) cotton trait T304-40, which is undergoing renewal authorisation, for food and feed uses, excluding cultivation, within the European Union. T304-40 confers glufosinate tolerance through the expression of the bar gene, and insect resistance through the expression of the Cry1Ab gene. The EFSA's GMO Panel has concluded that there is no evidence in the renewal dossier that shows evidence of new hazards, modified exposure, or scientific uncertainties that would change the conclusions of the original risk assessment.
