EFSA Publishes Risk Assessment of Bayer’s GM MON 87460 Maize
DECEMBER 8, 2025
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has published its assessment of Bayer’s drought-tolerant genetically modified (GM) maize MON 87460, which is currently undergoing renewal authorisation for food and feed uses, excluding cultivation, within the European Union. The EFSA’s GMO panel has concluded that there is no evidence in the renewal dossier for new hazards, modified exposure, or scientific uncertainties that would change the conclusions of the original risk assessment, provided that the DNA sequence of the event remains identical to that previously assessed. MON 87460 exhibits reduced yield loss under water-limited conditions through the expression of the cold shock protein B (cspB).
