EFSA Publishes Risk Assessment of Corteva’s DP202216 × NK603 × DAS 40278 Maize

DECEMBER 5, 2025

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has published an assessment of the genetically modified herbicide-tolerant maize DP202216 × NK603 × DAS 40278, following an application from Corteva. The trait stack confers potential for yield enhancement under field conditions, utilising the zmm28 gene, as well as tolerance to the herbicide active ingredients glyphosate, glufosinate and 2,4-D using the CP4 epsps, PAT and aad-1 genes respectively. In its assessment, the EFSA’s GMO panel identified no new concerns that would require modification of the original verdict regarding safety. Therefore, the panel concluded that maize containing DP202216 × NK603 × DAS 40278 was as safe as its conventional counterpart with respect to potential effects on human and animal health and the environment, and no post-market monitoring of food/feed was deemed necessary.
