EFSA Re-approves Bayer’s MON 88017 Maize
MARCH 17, 2020
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has re-approved Bayer’s genetically modified (GM) insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant maize MON 88017, marketed as YieldGuard VT Rootworm RR2, for food and feed use. The MON 88017 trait confers resistance to coleopteran insects, particularly corn rootworm, through the cry3Bb1 gene and glyphosate-tolerance through the cp4 epsps gene. The EFSA stated that there is no evidence in the renewal application for new hazards, modified exposure or scientific uncertainties that would change the conclusions of the original risk assessment.
