EFSA Re-approves Syngenta’s Agrisure Maize

JANUARY 15, 2021

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has re-approved Syngenta’s genetically modified (GM) insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant maize Bt11, marketed as Agrisure CB/LL, for feed and food uses, excluding cultivation within the EU. The Bt11 trait confers resistance to lepidopteran pests through the expression of the cry1Ab gene, and tolerance to the herbicide glufosinate through the expression of the PAT gene. The EFSA stated that there is no evidence in the renewal application for new hazards, modified exposure or scientific uncertainties that would change the conclusions of the original risk assessment.
