Evogene and Bayer Update Collaboration

JULY 16, 2019

Evogene has announced that its corn disease resistance research collaboration with Bayer, originally formed between Evogene and Monsanto, is being refocused on the identification of genome editing targets for evaluation against a range of corn diseases. Through the updated collaboration, Evogene will utilise its Computational Predictive Biology (CPB) platform to identify targets for gene-editing that would improve disease resistance in corn, with any promising targets then pursued by Bayer for validation. The primary focus of the collaboration is the discovery and development of candidate genes predicted to provide resistance to various fungal diseases in corn. The collaboration previously demonstrated positive results regarding the control of Fusarium spp. using genes discovered by Evogene that were then advanced to Bayer’s corn pipeline for further development (see AgbioNews Jul 11, 2017).
