FFAR Funds Maize Drought Tolerance Research

SEPTEMBER 18, 2019

The Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR) has awarded a $1.8 million grant to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to support the identification of genetic markers in maize associated with drought tolerance, and to accelerate the breeding of new drought-resistant varieties. The grant has been awarded through the Crops of the Future Collaborative, a consortium launched in 2017 aimed at accelerating crop breeding to meet global food demand (see AgbioNews Jun 30, 2017), with FFAR providing $900,000 and Inari, KWS and Syngenta also contributing.
