GM Maize and Soybean Gain Chinese Safety Approval
JANUARY 14, 2022
A pilot program investigating the safety of GM maize and soybean in China has resulted in granting of safety certificates for production and application following an almost 10-year food and environmental safety assessment. Four GM maize varieties and three GM soybean varieties have obtained the safety certificates and no negative effects on beneficial insects and soil quality were identified. It is hoped the industrialisation of GM maize and soybean will reduce pesticide usage and increase crop yields.
