GM Monitor – GM Crop Approvals October 2025

OCTOBER 19, 2025

AgbioInvestor’s free-to-access service AgbioInvestor GM Monitor has identified the following GM trait approvals up to October 2025.

The Chinese company Beijing DabeiNong Biotechnology (BDN) received cultivation approval for its DBN8205 soybean trait in Argentina, which confers resistance to lepidopteran insect pests, including fall armyworm and beet armyworm, through the insertion of two genes, Cry1Ac and Cry2Ab2, as well as tolerance to the herbicide glufosinate through the pat gene. None of the genes employed in DBN8205 are novel, and the genetic event itself was most likely inserted through agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation using T-DNA containing the desired genetic information to transfer a segment of T-DNA into host cells, following which successful genetic transformation was screened for using a selectable marker.

This is the first cultivation approval for DBN8205 outside of China, but it has yet to receive approval for either food or feed use in any country. Other soybean traits from DBN (DBN8002, DBN9004 and their combination) have received cultivation approval in Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. DBN has yet to receive cultivation approval for any of its maize traits outside of China.
