The government of India has again reduced the maximum price chargeable for Bollgard II cotton seed, according to reports. The price of 450 gram packets has reportedly been reduced from Rs 740 to Rs 730 ($10.48 at today’s exchange rate). In addition to the price cap, the trait royalty fee payable by domestic seed companies to Monsanto Mahyco Biotech (the 50:50 joint venture between Monsanto and Indian seed company Mahyco) has been reduced from Rs 39 to Rs 20 per packet ($0.29).
