S&W and Adama to Develop Sorghum Herbicide-Tolerant System
S&W Seed and Adama are to collaborate on the development of a new sorghum herbicide-tolerant system to improve weed control and yields for sorghum growers. Through the collaboration, S&W will provide new herbicide tolerance traits and high-performance seeds, with Adama to provide the herbicides to be used in the system. The agreement includes ACCase tolerant traits, such as the Double Team trait developed by S&W in collaboration with the United Sorghum Checkoff program using traditional breeding non-GMO tissue culture, and ACCase inhibitor herbicides.
Field trials for the new system are planned for 2020, with regulatory trials also underway to obtain global approval for the trait and herbicide system to facilitate grain export. The Double Team sorghum herbicide-tolerance solution is currently pending regulatory approval by the US EPA and is expected to be made commercially available in limited quantities during early 2021.
