S&W Seed in Australian Licensing Agreement with Corteva

AUGUST 21, 2019

S&W Seed Company is to expand its market presence in Australia with the addition of wheat germplasm to its current portfolio, which currently includes sorghum, alfalfa and sunflower. The company will now offer a number of wheat varieties in the country with immediate effect through an exclusive, prepaid licence from Corteva Agriscience, while also continuing a breeding program for varieties the company believes to have potential for the Australian market. Through the terms of the 15-year agreement with Corteva, S&W will own any new distinct wheat varieties generated from its breeding program. The addition of wheat to S&W’s portfolio comes as part of the company’s strategic objective to become one of the country’s leading suppliers of elite seed genetics. BASF has similarly recently announced its plans to enter the Australian wheat seed market (see AgbioNews Aug 12, 2019), with the upcoming launch of its first wheat seed varieties in the country on track to launch in 2021.
