Switzerland Extends Genetic Engineering Moratorium

OCTOBER 5, 2021

The National Council of Switzerland has extended the moratorium on the cultivation of genetically modified plants in agriculture for four more years, until the end of 2025. Applications for the consideration of genetic engineering methods such as genome editing to be exempted from the moratorium were rejected. The extension has been extended three times previously and the ban was provisionally extended in December 2020 (see AgbioNews Dec 7, 2020).
