Tropic Biosciences has gained confirmation that its genetically engineered potatoes with reduced browning, developed using its proprietary GEiGS technology, were determined to be exempt from regulation by the USDA. This is the first regulatory assessment of a product developed using the company’s technology. The company is also using this technology to develop traits in bananas, coffee and rice. Tropic Biosciences entered into a research agreement with BASF regarding its GEiGS platform in July 2020 (see AgbioNews Jul 23, 2020).
