US EPA Approves BASF’s GMB151 Soybean
AUGUST 21, 2020
The US EPA has granted registration for BASF’s herbicide tolerant and nematode resistant soybean event GMB151 after verifying the safety of the Plant Incorporated Protectant active ingredient Cry14Ab-1 and the genetic material necessary for its production in GMB151 soybeans. The GMB151 event confers resistance to soybean cyst nematode and Pratylenchus through the Cry14Ab-1 protein and provides HPPD herbicide tolerance through a modified 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD-4) enzyme.
BASF first applied to the US EPA for the approval of GMB151 soybean in 2019 (see AgbioNews May 21, 2019), and has since also submitted an application for approval to Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) (AgbioNews Apr 17, 2020).
