Australia Includes GT73 Canola on GMO Register

AUGUST 20, 2024

Australia’s Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) has included all dealings with genetically modified (GM) GT73 canola on the GMO Register. As a result, its is no longer necessary for people conducting the dealings to hold or be covered by a GMO licence in Australia. This will enable the commercial scale cultivation, import, retail/wholesale trade of GT73 canola, and the use of the variety in product manufacture and animal feed.

GT73 canola, also known as Roundup Ready canola, has been modified to tolerate the herbicide glyphosate by introduction of two genes sourced from common soil bacteria.
