Bayer Seeks Australia and New Zealand Approval for MON 94804 Maize
MARCH 20, 2024
Bayer has submitted an application to Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) seeking approval for the sales and use of food derived from its genetically modified short stature MON 94804 maize. MON 94804 maize varieties have been modified for reduced plant height and lodging risk via suppression of the ZmGA20ox3 and ZmGA20ox5 genes, which produce the growth hormone gibberellic acid. The approval would not permit the cultivation of MON 94804 maize in Australia or New Zealand.
