EFSA Re-approves Syngenta's MIR162 Maize

SEPTEMBER 26, 2022

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has re-approved Syngenta’s genetically modified (GM) insect-resistant maize MIR162, marketed as Agrisure Viptera, for feed and food uses within the EU. The MIR162 trait confers resistance to lepidopteran pests through the expression of the Vip3Aa gene. The EFSA stated that there is no evidence in the renewal application for new hazards, modified exposure or scientific uncertainties that would change the conclusions of the original risk assessment.
