The Philippines Bureau of Plant Industry of the Department of Agriculture has granted a biosafety permit for commercial propagation of the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority's (PhilFIDA) GM insect-resistant cotton event GFM Cry1A (see AgbioInvestor GM Monitor). PhilFIDA’s B.t cotton trait confers resistance to cotton bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera) via the production of the Cry1Ab and Cry1Ac proteins from Bacillus thuringiensis.
