The plant-based technology company Calyxt has entered into an agreement with S&W Seed for the exclusive license of an improved quality alfalfa seed in the USA and other select geographies. This represents Calyxt’s first commercial trait license agreement, with the company anticipating potential license revenues of over $10 million over the life of the pending patent for the trait. The new alfalfa seed, which will be sold as part of the S&W seed portfolio and branded IQ Alfalfa (IQA), contains a quality-enhancing trait to increase bioavailability for livestock, which may lead to greater animal performance.
