EFSA Publishes Risk Assessment of BASF’s T304-40 × GHB119 × COT102 Cotton
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has published an assessment of the genetically modified herbicide-tolerant, insect-resistant cotton T304-40 × GHB119 × COT102, following an application from BASF. The trait stack provides resistance to lepidopteran pests (Cry1Ab, Cry2Ae, Vip3Aa19) and tolerance to glufosinate ammonium-tolerance (PAT/bar). In its assessment, the EFSA's GMO panel identified no new concerns that would require modification of the original verdict regarding safety. Therefore, the panel concluded that cotton containing T304-40 × GHB119 × COT102 was as safe as its conventional counterpart with respect to potential effects on human and animal health and the environment, and no post-market monitoring of food/feed was deemed necessary.
