Inari Receive Patents for Novel Gene Edits
Inari, a US-based biotechnology company, has received two patents for proprietary gene edits, and in doing so, reportedly becomes the first company granted patents for gene editing GM traits. One of the patents covers transgenic corn INIR6 comprising an edited DP-4114 trait, offering an insect management solution. The other applies to transgenic soybean INHT31 comprising an edited MON-89788 soybean trait, providing a weed management solution. Inari has a further 10 trait-specific and 5 general patent applications pending. The edits have been established using Inari’s proprietary CRISPR-CasS technology and are outside any third-party patents enabling the pathway to commercialisation. Inari aims to commercialise these products in the coming years.
