Australia Grants University of Adelaide GM Wheat Field Trial License

Australia’s Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) has granted The University of Adelaide a licence to undertake field trials with wheat and barley genetically modified for yield enhancement. The licence allows GM wheat and barley to be grown at one site with a maximum area of two hectares per year at the field site in Light Regional Council in South Australia from May 2024 until January 2029. The GM wheat and barley grown in the field trial will not be used in human food or animal feed.
