Australia Receives University of Adelaide Application for GM Canola Field Trials

DECEMBER 12, 2024

Australia’s Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) has received a licence application from the University of Adelaide to conduct a field trial of genetically modified (GM) canola with increased photosynthesis and photorespiration. The trial is proposed to take place between April 2025 and January 2030, on one site with a maximum area of 2 hectares per year, located in Light Regional Council in South Australia. The trial would be subject to control measures that restrict the spread and persistence of the GM plants and their introduced genetic material, while the GM canola would not be used for human food or animal feed.
