China Approves KJC017 HT GM Cotton Trait
OCTOBER 22, 2024
China’s Ministry of Agriculture has approved a new genetically modified (GM) cotton event for cultivation and production. KJC017 cotton, developed by Huapont Life Science’s subsidiary Kijidalong (Beijing) Biotech, confers tolerance to the herbicide glyphosate via the expression of the CP4 epsps gene. The approval has been granted for five years, effective from 8th October 2024. At present, China does not commercially cultivate herbicide tolerant (HT) cotton, only insect resistant varieties.
