DBN Gains Brazilian Approval for GM Soybean Cultivation
Brazil’s National Biosafety Technical Commission (CTNBio) has granted Dabeinong Biotechnology, a subsidiary of Beijing Dabeinong (DBN) Technology Group Co., Ltd, approval for the commercial release of the genetically modified (GM) soybean trait stack DBN8002 x DBN9004. DBN8002 x DBN9004 provides lepidopteran insect resistance with glyphosate and glufosinate herbicide tolerance. Insect resistance is achieved through the use of the Vip3Aa insecticidal protein, while glyphosate and glufosinate herbicide tolerance is conferred through expression of the the epsps and pat genes. The approval certifies that the GM soybean trait stack passed Brazil’s biosafety assessment and is safe for human and animal consumption, posing no significant environmental risks. The approval marks a significant milestone for DBN's expansion into South America. The individual events DBN9004 and DBN8002 had already been approved in Brazil, while the trait stack previously gained planting approval in Uruguay (see AgbioNews Apr 3, 2025).
