AgbioInvestor's free-to-access GM Monitor service has published its analysis of the total global GM crop area in the 2022 agricultural year, which includes farmer-saved and government supplied seed. The dataset and accompanying global review document may be downloaded from the GM Monitor website. Launched in 2022, the GM Monitor service provides GM planted area data and monthly analysis of GM crop approvals for cultivation and food/feed. In addition to providing all data through interactive Power BI data visualisations, all data is available to download in Microsoft Excel pivot tables for enhanced data manipulation.

The global GM crop area increased by 3.3% in 2022 to reach 202.2 million hectares, driven by higher areas in Brazil, Australia, India, Paraguay and South Africa, more than offsetting lower areas in the US, Canada, Pakistan, China and the Philippines. In 2022, the US retained its leading position in the global ranking of countries cultivating GM crops, planting 74.47 million hectares, although this is 1.0% lower than the previous year.
