GM Monitor – GM Crop Approvals August 2024
AgbioInvestor’s free-to-access service AgbioInvestor GM Monitor has identified the following GM trait approvals up to August 2024. Expanded details on these recently approved traits, as well as for approvals dating back as far as 1992, can be found on AgbioInvestor’s GM Monitor website.
Event EH913 has gained US import approval for food and feed uses. Event EH913 confers lepidopteran insect resistance, including fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) and sugarcane borer (Diatraea saccharalis), in maize through the expression of the Cry1Da gene, and glufosinate tolerance through the use of the PAT gene. PAT was also used as a selectable marker during transformation and in the breeding program. The novel genes were introduced through Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. The regulatory submission was initiated by Helix Sementes, an Agroceres Group company, however it was jointly developed by the company and Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation Embrapa. Event EH913 is currently only approved for cultivation in Brazil under the brand name BTMAX, with authorisation being granted in 2022. The US is so far the only country to have granted import approval for food/feed uses. The Cry1Da gene has been utilised in a number of insect resistant maize genetic events developed by Bayer and by Corteva. Bayer’s MON 95379 genetic event has gained cultivation approval in Brazil (2020), Canada (2021), South Africa (2021) and Paraguay (2022). Corteva’s DAS1131 genetic event has cultivation approval in Brazil (2023) and Canada (2023).
