Chacra Experimental Agrícola Santa Rosa (La Chacra) has reportedly developed the first transgenic sugarcane in Argentina. The sugarcane contains the event QAB016 which confers glyphosate tolerance for weed control, and is currently in the regulatory process. GM sugarcane has not previously received approval for cultivation in Argentina, but many other GM crops including alfalfa, cotton, maize, potato, safflower, soybean and wheat have previously been granted cultivation approval.
