Indonesia Approves HB4 Wheat and GM Canola for Consumption

MARCH 17, 2023

Indonesia has approved genetically modified HB4 wheat for human consumption, with this decision following the approval for feed use earlier this year (see AgbioNews Feb 13, 2023). The wheat, which utilises the genetic event IND 412 (IND-ØØ412-7) to confer drought- and glufosinate-tolerance, was developed by Verdeca, a subsidiary of the Argentine company Bioceres and the Instituto de Agrobiotecnología del Litoral (Conicet-UNL). Indonesia has also approved BASF’s glufosinate-tolerant InVigor canola hybrid for food uses.
