Origin Agritech has announced that its 3-event stacked GM maize variety BFL4-2 has been selected for cultivation in China’s national demonstration plot and is currently being grown there in anticipation of a 2023 commercial launch. BFL4-2 maize varieties possess two insect-resistance genes (Cry1Ab and Cry1F), as well as a glyphosate tolerance gene (CP4 epsps). The company’s BFL4-2 maize trait was granted a biosafety certificate in China earlier this year (see AgbioNews Jan 18, 2023), representing the only 3-event stacked maize to be approved in the country.
