Origin Agritech has been issued a GM safety certificate for its BBL2-2 transgenic maize. The BBL2-2 genetic event contains two insect-resistant genes, Cry1Ab and Cry3Bb, to confer resistance to various lepidopteran and coleopteran insect pests, and one herbicide-tolerance gene, Cp4-epsps, conferring glyphosate tolerance.

In addition to its work on BBL2-2, Origin Agritech recently developed a high-yield corn inbred line through precise gene editing techniques, which is currently in the process of an agricultural biosafety assessment.
