USDA Deregulates Bayer's MON 94804 Maize

JUNE 8, 2023

The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has completed a review of Bayer's genetically modified MON 94804 maize. MON 94804 maize varieties have been modified for reduced plant height and lodging risk via suppression of the ZmGA20ox3 and ZmGA20ox5 genes, which produce the growth hormone gibberellic acid. APHIS determined that MON 94804 maizeĀ is unlikely to pose an increased plant pest risk relative to its comparators. As a result, MON 94804 maize will not be subject to regulations under 7 CFR part 340.
