USDA Issues Responses to Regulatory Status Reviews for Four GM Plants
FEBRUARY 1, 2024
The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has reviewed four genetically modified (GM) plants to determine whether they pose an increased plant pest risk relative to non-modified comparators. APHIS has determined that the modified plants are unlikely to pose an increased plant pest risk compared to other cultivated plants, and as a result are not subject to increased regulation. The plant varieties reviewed are as follows:
- GDM Seeds, modified soybean for drought tolerance.
- BioHeuris, modified soybean for herbicide resistance.
- Michigan State University, modified potato for lowered glucose and fructose in tubers.
- ZeaKal, modified soybean for increased seed oil and protein.
