The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has invited public comments on a Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare an environmental impact statement to examine potential environmental impacts from the deregulation of Bayer’s genetically engineered maize variety MON 87429. This maize variety is intended for hybrid seed production and was modified through genetic engineering to possess tolerance to the herbicides dicamba, glufosinate, quizalofop, 2,4-D and glyphosate. The event has so far gained import approval in Australia and Canada.
