EFSA Re-Approves Bayer’s Yieldgard VT Triple Maize

FEBRUARY 2, 2021

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has re-approved Bayer’s genetically modified (GM) insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant maize MON 810 x MON 88017, marketed as YieldGard VT Triple, for feed and food uses, excluding cultivation within the EU. YieldGard VT Triple maize varieties possess resistance to lepidopteran and coleopteran pests, through the expression of the Cry1Ab, and Cry3Bb1 genes, and tolerance to the herbicide glyphosate, through the expression of the CP4 epsps gene. The EFSA stated that there is no evidence in the renewal application for new hazards, modified exposure or scientific uncertainties that would change the conclusions of the original risk assessment.
